How movies can make your speeches better
Movies aren’t just great for entertainment. They’re a brilliant opportunity to learn about structuring and delivering speeches. Here are my 5 favourite speeches from the movies.
Hi! I’m Nyree and I’m the Chief Wordsmith and speechwriter around here.
I started out my career in politics – working at both a local and state/territory level. I worked in community engagement, communications and as a ministerial advisor. I wrote all kinds of critical messaging documents from briefs and memos, discussion papers and newsletters through to speeches for Chief Ministers.
My words are in the parliamentary record forever. And I’m pretty freaking proud of that.
When I was done with politics, I moved into health and community services, turning my policy-loving brain to the public health, alcohol and other drugs, child protection and mental health sectors. I was involved in some very important legislative reform that has changed the lives of people living in the Northern Territory.
In 2017, I started my business as a copywriter and content writer and over those years I’ve worked on some incredible projects with some amazing people. But my true love was always in speechwriting and so in 2022, I’m returning to it.
There’s nothing more exhilarating than hearing the words you’ve written being read aloud. I’ll never get tired of it.

My main goal is to make working with me a breeze. So it’ll go something like this!
Without being evasive…it depends! There are so many variables to consider. The best way to approach your project is with a custom quote.
I’m more than happy to provide an obligation-free quote and offer package discounts if you access more than one service.
Well, you may not. But if giving presentations, speeches, interviews or making videos is in your business model, then a speechwriter like me can help.
I don’t just take the physical work off your hands. I can help you with idea generation, strategy, story flow and even the research.
And it’ll all sound just like you because that’s the whole point, right?
I promise, once you’ve used a speechwriter, you’ll wonder how you managed without one!
Great question! A copywriter writes to sell while a content writer writes to educate and inform.
These days, the terms are used interchangeably so don’t worry about asking for the wrong thing. I got you.
You can read more here: What the heck is a copywriter and why do I need one?
Without being evasive, that depends on the project. There’s a lot more involved in a writing project than just sitting down and typing.
There’s research, content planning, structure, editing, proofing, incorporating feedback, revisions etc.
Just request a quote and I’ll give you the all-inclusive price. It’s obligation-free too.
YES! I can work with anyone in Australia or New Zealand. We can do any meetings and briefings over the phone, email, Skype or Zoom. All you need is an internet connection.
If you want me to host a workshop in person outside of Brisbane, I’m happy to travel and will include reasonable travel costs in my quote.
They are really straightforward. You can check them out here.
Absolutely! I work with other small businesses who can do graphic design, web design, photography, printing, social media, and heaps more. I’m always happy to contract those services on your behalf to make a project run smoothly for you.
If you’d prefer to contract those other services yourself, I’ll happily introduce you and brief them on the work I’m doing.
YEP! If you want to learn how to do it yourself, I can offer one-on-one sessions or tailored workshop sessions for groups. Whether it’s website copy, regular business correspondence or video scripts, I can help you get those ideas out of your head and onto the page.
Yes! We can catch up for a strategy session and chat about your goals for your project and what copy would work best for you. Sometimes it just takes a fresh set of eyes to see what you could offer your customers that would have impact.
Sure can. I can do a full edit or proofread depending on what you are looking for. I’ll make any changes that need to be made and explain why I’ve made them so you can learn some tips and tricks as we go.
More info on editing and proofreading is here.
You’re probably sick of hearing the acronym by now! SEO is search engine optimisation and basically, it’s a set of things to do that helps get your website, blog or other online presence found more easily on Google.
It can be influenced by lots of things including the quantity and quality of your copy, how you use your keywords, title tags and meta descriptions, the alternative text on your images, technical stuff like redirects, how many other pages of authority link to you, and lots more.
The important thing to know is that your web developer might not do the SEO stuff you need. Check with them. My copy includes SEO directions for web developers for title tags, meta descriptions, headings and calls to action but doesn’t include the technical IT stuff.
If that has made your head spin, grab a Website Audit and I’ll show you how you rank and how to fix it.
If it involves words, probably. Get in touch and I’ll let you know!
No! That is definitely not in my skillset. I’m happy to recommend some great people to do it for you. Get in touch
No. I can write your content or edit what you already have but managing a social media presence isn’t for me. I’m happy to recommend someone who can do it for you. Get in touch.
From time to time, I outsource some smaller bits of big projects to other copywriters I trust. I’ll let you know if that’s likely when we discuss your project. All contractors work is checked and guaranteed by me and won’t cost you anything extra.
I will never, EVER, under any circumstances, outsource overseas or through low-cost dodgy platforms. You’re paying for good quality and that’s what you’ll get.
Nope, not anymore. I just don’t have time.
I can recommend someone awesome though! Just hit me up and I’ll share their details.
Good copywriting can be done solo but to make your projects really shine, you might need to access some complementary services.
I have graphic designers, photographers, web developers, editors and proofreaders, and just general digital gurus on my speed dial. I can engage them on your behalf or put you in touch. I trust these guys with my (business) life!
